Dust off your dancing shoes and dress from your favorite decade! We will dance the night away to benefit the UF Health PALS Thrive Program. Doors open at 6:30 pm at Elder Care of Alachua County- 5701 NW 34th Blvd. Gainesville, FL 32653.

The PALS Thrive program is a suicide/violence prevention and anti-bullying program that was created in 2000 by two courageous local students in responce to the Columbine shooting. Their idea of "No One Sits Alone" has grown into what we now call PALS Thrive; a program supported by graduate students in psychology and counseling, supervised by licensed professionals. They provide free mental health services, leadership and prevention programs in local schools.

Superhero 5K

Benefiting: Partnership for Storng Families

Every day children in our care are searching for their superhero. These children are newborns. They are middle-school-aged. They are teenagers. They are all races and nationalities. It is our jobs to provide temporary shelter for these children who can no longer live at home because home is not safe. For some children, their home of origin will never be safe, and we are charged with finding them safe, love forever families. We race to raise awareness for the 700 children in our area who are in out-of-home care because of abuse or neglect and especially for the 35 who need adoptive homes.

Sometimes children are not able to live at home or sleep in their own beds due to due to abuse or neglect. If a relative is not available, we rely on Partner Families to open their hearts and home to the children in need of safety, love and nurturing, and, when the time is right let them go again. We race to raise awareness of the need for more Partner Families to support the children in our care.

Registration fees are as follows:

Children 5 and under: Free Children ages 6 to 15: $5 per child. Includes a race timing bib for runners and a goodie bag. Children’s T-shirts are available for an additional $5. Ages 16 and Up: $20 per participant. Includes a race t-shirt, timing bib for runners and a goodie bag.

Registration for children who are in licensed foster care through PSF are free with a registered Partner Family.

Day of the race registration is $30.

Registering for the Superhero 5K is strongly encouraged. Race t-shirts will be guaranteed for the first 200 participants. Race packet pick-up will be the week of the race at Fit2Run.

Race Times For people registering the day of the race, check-in and registration will begin at 7 a.m. The “Super-Runners” will start at 8:30 a.m., with the “Super-Walkers” beginning at 8:45 a.m. Refreshments will be available at the finish line for our superheroes who participate.

Prizes Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female runners in each age group based on race results. Prizes will also be awarded to those wearing the most authentic superhero costume, as well as the best superhero family. The 6 ages groups are: 6-10; 11-15; 16-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40 & UP.

The Course The race will start and end at Kanapaha Park in Gainesville off Tower Road. The address is 7400 SW 41st Place, Gainesville, FL 32608.

Bikers on Parade for the USA

Benifiting: American Hometown Veteran Assist, Inc.

This will be a fun motorcycle ride that will start at Santa Fe College. Last Minute registrations, staging, vendors and radio station coverage will begin at 8:00 AM. Safety Meeting will start at 10:45 AM, Kickstands Up and Ready to Ride at 11:00 AM leaving Santa Fe and the ride will end at the Gainesville Raceway followed by an after party of BBQ, Beer and Music.

Bikers on Parade is a motorcycle ride to help support American Hometown Veteran Assist, Inc. Our local Gainesville community will come together as Americans to provide a fun event that will help support our local veteran community. It will begin with a kick off party several weeks before at Gainesville Harley and a ride on November 8, 2015 that will end with a BBQ Meal and Party.

The mission of AHVAI is to assist local* veterans of our Armed Forces and their family members in need, with war-wounded veterans being given highest priority.

Such assistance may take various forms, dependent upon circumstances, including, but not limited to, monetary, providing needed equipment, assistance with vehicle or other equipment repairs, help with locating needed resources, or other reasonable humanitarian assistance.

All assistance requests will be reviewed by the corporate officers for approval, based on available funds and conformance to our guiding principles: evident need, urgency, stress relief/family integrity, quality-of-life improvement, bolstering/restoration of self-respect & confidence.

*Local, for our purposes, is defined as within approximately a 100 mile radius of Fort White, Florida.

Sunrise Rotary Gainesville is a very active club of about 60 members who take pride in their community service projects. We hold an annual fund-raising event each November, the world-famous Mama Mia's Italian Dinner, to support a number of long-standing charitable activities.

One of our signature projects is the renovation and maintenance of the butterfly garden at Gainesville's Ronald McDonald House. We also fund college scholarships for three Newberry High School students. Boo at the Zoo

Benefiting: Local Food Banks

Boo at the Zoo is Gainesville's favorite Halloween treat for families. The students and staff transform the zoo into a spooky but safe trick or treat event for the whole family. Admission to the event is one canned good per person. Cans collected help two charities, Santa Fe Harvest and Catholic Charities, which feed families in need from our community.

In addition, entertainment is provided by Danscompany of Gainesville which performs "Thriller" several times throughout the event. Also, Domino's Pizza will be on hand to provide refreshments and food for a small fee.

The zoo is scheduled to be closed from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. in order to prepare and transform the zoo into 16 different candy stations that will be decorated in themes from many different children classics and fan favorites. Bring a camera, past candy stations included characters from Cinderella, Super Mario Brothers or maybe Scooby Doo!

The Zoo will open at 3 p.m. on October 31, 2015.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks are the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting nearly 300 communities with a shared determination to finish the fight. By signing up, fundraising, and participating in one of our noncompetitive, three- to five-mile walks, you will help us be there for everyone in every community touched by breast cancer. PACE Throw a Girl a Lifeline

PACE Center for Girls, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 corporation that provides a non-residential delinquency prevention program in locations statewide, targeting the unique needs of females 12 to 18 who are identified as dependent, truant, runaway, delinquent, or in need of academic skills.

PACE (Practical Academic Cultural Education) accepts referrals from the juvenile justice system, the Department of Children and Families, school personnel, community services agencies, parents, family members, friends and self-referrals.

Its purpose is to intervene and prevent school withdrawal, juvenile delinquency, teen pregnancy, substance abuse and welfare dependency in a safe and nurturing environment. PACE programs provide the following services: academic education, individualized attention, a gender-specific life management curriculum (SPIRITED GIRLS®), therapeutic support services, parental involvement, student volunteer service projects and transition follow-up services.

Every girl at PACE sets individual educational and social goals that are focused on earning a high school diploma or GED, re-entering public school, attending college, getting vocational training, joining the military or entering the private workforce. After program completion, PACE continues to monitor each girl's educational and personal development with three years of follow-up case management.

Gator fans – the football game will be shown on two televisions!

The Putnam Lodge, built in 1927 – 28 by the Putnam Lumber Company, is part of the bygone era in Florida’s forestry history. Guests at the Putnam Lodge will be impressed by the quality of the restoration. The dining room is almost in its original state, with hand-painted pecky cypress walls, ceilings and columns. The dining room opens onto a newly-constructed deck designed to handle overflow from the dining room during special events. The comfortable lobby and lounges also retain the original design of the Lodge.

Bryan Shelton Celebration of Tennis

Gainesville Area Community Tennis Association (GACTA) is hosting its Second Annual Bryan Shelton Celebration of Tennis on Friday August 21st and Saturday, August 22nd, 2015, to benefit its tennis outreach program, Aces in Motion (AIM). This two part event will feature an evening celebration, Aim for the Stars, on Friday at the Gainesville Women'a Club from 6:30pm-10pm featuring music from Gosia and Ali, Dinner catered by Southern Charm Kitchen, a raffle, silent auction and keynote spacker Bryan Shelton, UF's men's head tennis coach. Then a tennis clinic and exhibition beginning at 8:30am Saturday morning with refreshments provided by Bagel Bakery and Mojo Hogtown Bar-B-Que.

Tickets for the Friday evening celebration are $50 each, for the Saturday morning tennis event $30 each, with a $10 adult spectator fee. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.gainesvilletennis.org or at http://gactafundraiser.eventbrite.com

The Gainesville Area Community Tennis Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that promotes health, character development and education through tennis. AIM uses tennis to help improve the lives of primarily low-income students, from elementary school through high school, with an emphasis on physical fitness, character development and improving study skills and academic performance. AIM’s long-term goal is to help participants live healthier lives and develop the skills necessary to escape poverty by enrolling in programs that lead to productive career pathways.
